Polymer clay is an oven-hardening art clay made from PVC (vinyl), plasticizer, pigments, fillers (like kaolin) and a touch of oils. It gets slightly softer as it warms up but begins to solidify and harden when it reaches about 130°F (55°C). Polymer clay doesn’t melt or get runny the way that wax or oil does.

If you have one of the other kinds of "clay" available these days (all of which can also be shaped or "modeled'), they can all be hardened but may use different methods (air only, heat or UV light, or waiting for a chemical reaction to occur).
To harden modeling clay that's polymer-based, start by placing the clay on a ceramic baking dish. Then, bake the clay in the oven for 10-30 minutes at 215-300 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on what the packaging your clay came in says.
