Hi - I am new and just started using the recipe builder. When I want to enter an amount that is a fraction of a whole, like 1 1/2 cups or 1.5 cups, I get a message that my entry is incorrect. To add that amount, I had to go to grams instead. Is the recipe builder based on the Metric system? If so, can I change it? Thanks!

Once the meter (for length) is defined, other units based on the meter are define. Grams are used for mass. Liters are used for volume. Next come the prefixes.

The metric system is based on the metre for length and the kilogram for mass that was adopted in France in 1795. It is considered a simpler form of measurement because it includes only 7 base units for different types of measurement. It is also based on the decimal system, multiples, and submultiples are always related to powers of 10.

Note: Unlike most English-Metric conversions, this one is exact. There are exactly 2.540000000... centimeters in 1 inch. We can make two unit factors from this information: Now, we can solve some problems. Set up each problem by writing down what you need to find with a question mark. Then set it equal to the information that you are given.

The metric system is preferred because the system is broken down into the smaller measurements. Metric system is based upon the powers of ten that is convenient because: A measurement in metric system which is represented by the rational number remains the rational number after the conversion in the metric unit.
